Rosehip Tea




General Information: The rose hip, also called rose haw, is the pomaceous fruit of the rose plant. Rose hip is not used only for tea; they can also be used to make jam, jelly, marmalade and wine. For medical purposes rose hip is used almost totally beginning with seeds ending with roots. It is a great source of vitamin C (2-18%), also contains vitamins A, D and E, and antioxidants. Rose hip is weakening headaches and dizziness, prevents bladder infections.

Rose hip in Armenia: Rose hip is widely spread all over Armenia. There are more than 31 kinds of rose hips and all of them can be used in medical purposes. Rose hip blossoms in spring but the seeds are matured for use in August or September. Rose hip seeds are great for curing any kind of inflammations. The mixture of seeds cooked in wine is good for intestinal and bladder infections. The tincture from the roots cures joint and skin diseases.

Making rosehip tea: To make tea with whole rosehips, you'll need around 5 of them per cup of water (or 2 teaspoons, if you are using pieces). If you are using the whole hips, make sure to steep for at least 10 minutes. Rosehips are often included in herbal blends, especially with hibiscus. Rosehip tea has a tangy, tart flavor and a pinkish color.

Mint (Daghc) Tea

General Information: For centuries, mint has been enjoyed for its wonderful aroma, its great taste, and its healing power. Long known for its ability to settle a nervous stomach, mint has a great many other health benefits as well. Whether as a soothing mint tea or part of a recipe, mint has long been part of both the cuisine and the medicinal cultures of societies as diverse as the Middle East, India and Europe.
Mint is well known for its ability to sooth the digestive tract and reduces the severity and length of stomach aches. In addition, mint teas and other herbal preparations have shown great promise at easing the discomfort associated with irritable bowel syndrome, and even at slowing the growth of many of the most harmful bacteria and fungi. The well-documented antifungal properties of mint are thought to play a role in the treatment of asthma and many allergy conditions as well.
It is even thought that mint may have benefits as an anticancer food. Mint is known to contain a phytonutrient called perillyl alcohol, which has been shown in studies on animals to prevent the formation of colon, skin and lung cancer.
Mint in Armenia: Mint is growing in almost every part of Armenia. Mint is widely spread in parts with high percentage of humidity. Mint is considered to be an aggressive plant, because it doesn't need to be taken care of and conquers new areas in fast manner. The time of harvest starts from April and lasts till snowing. Mint is frostproof plant.
Recipe: 4 regular black tea bags; 2 peppermint or spearmint tea bags; 1 c. sugar; pinch of baking soda
Bring tea to a boil, add a pinch of baking soda to remove any bitterness, steep for 3-5 minutes.
Remove tea bags and add sugar. Add enough cold water to make 3 quarts total.

Pomegranate Rind Tea


General information: The pomegranate tree is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India. For several millenniums it had been cultivated in Georgia, Armenia and in the Mediterranean region. Pomegranate is a small tree up to 5 meter in height. The bark of the pomegranate tree is light brown with red buds and young shoots. The leaves are small, opposite, glossy and almost evergreen. The large and attractive pomegranate flowers are orange-red. The pomegranate is a popular exotic fruit. Pomegranate juice is especially used in everyday life and is known as a healthy drink. However, most phytochemicals and healthy components can be found in the rind of the fruit. Tea made from pomegranate rides is used to treat diarrhea, intestinal parasites, etc.



Pomegranate in Armenia: Armenia has traditionally been a motherland for pomegranate plants. The fruit is being cultivated in different parts of the country (mainly in warmer areas). Pomegranates in Megri region nurtured with hot sun are well known and highly valued by all Armenians. Pomegranate is not only an aesthetic pleasure (luxury) in every Armenian table but also has very useful qualities. All Armenians know this, but very few are aware how useful and healthier is the tea made from rinds of pomegranates. Recipe: To make the extract you should add 10 grams of dried pomegranate rides in 200 grams of boiled water and boil for 15 minutes. After you can use the ready extract as a tea by adding some sweeteners and flavors.

Thyme (Urc) Tea




General Information: The generic name comes from the Greek word “tymos”, which symbolized courage. During the middle ages the thyme flower was pictured on the necklaces of knights in order to inspire them with will and courage. Thyme was also considered to be a plant of worship.
In ancient times people were convinced that thyme had unique qualities, was able to recover not only a person’s health, but also to bring him back to life. This was the reason why leaves of thyme were neared to the noses of those who lost consciousness.In Europe, during the early middle ages, thyme was considered to be useful for stomach illnesses, spleen, liver or feminine illnesses, or for curing respiratory track or nerve inflammations. Up to the present there exists a point of view according which if one sleeps on the thyme pillow, will be healthy and will live long. This kind of conviction is not surprising as it contains volatile oils from 0.1%-2%, the main constituent part of which is thymole. Thyme is also a wonderful source of honey.
Thyme in Armenia: Armenia is rich with extensive amount of useful plants (nearly 60% of flora). In this population Thyme is among the widely used plants. One of the peculiarities of Armenian Thyme is that its largest part is located in the mountainous areas. And the very specific and sharp smell of Armenian Thyme comes from the idea of growing in the mountains. Beginning from the ancient times Armenians are well familiar with the medical properties of thyme. They used and continue using thyme not only in their everyday life as an aromatic drink but also for medical purposes.

Chamomile Tea




General Information: Chamomile is any several distinct species in the sunflower family. The Chamomile flower is most often used like a bitter herb tea mixture. Those mixtures are calming the digestive tract, easing of the spasms of irritable bowel syndrome and nocturnal cramps. Chamomile tea is a relaxant and sedative and usually used against insomnia and anxiety. When used externally, chamomile tea is used to reduce skin irritations, as a chamomile has an antiseptic effect.


Chamomile in Armenia: In Armenia chamomile is widely spread all over the country. Although Armenia has a very small area, it has reach plant diversity. The chamomile has leading position in that diversification. You can easily find chamomile in almost all parts of Armenia. From the ancient times chamomile mixture was used by most people living in villages and cities as well. It has very good sanitary effect and most Armenians know about it. Chamomile is growing from the very beginning of summer till the early autumn, thus Armenians can harvest the product more than two times a year and have a large quantity of chamomile. Although health care is well developed during the years the usage of chamomile tea as an antiseptic is very popular in Armenia.
Making Chamomile Tea: Using the dried flowers and leaves, the basic "recipe" for chamomile is 1 rounded teaspoon of dried flowers boiled in water and strained for each cup of tea. Honey is a favorite sweetener, and it also tastes delightful with a squeeze of lemon or lime. (A sprinkle of cinnamon adds an interesting taste.)
