General Information: The rose hip, also called rose haw, is the pomaceous fruit of the rose plant. Rose hip is not used only for tea; they can also be used to make jam, jelly, marmalade and wine. For medical purposes rose hip is used almost totally beginning with seeds ending with roots. It is a great source of vitamin C (2-18%), also contains vitamins A, D and E, and antioxidants. Rose hip is weakening headaches and dizziness, prevents bladder infections.
Rose hip in Armenia: Rose hip is widely spread all over Armenia. There are more than 31 kinds of rose hips and all of them can be used in medical purposes. Rose hip blossoms in spring but the seeds are matured for use in August or September. Rose hip seeds are great for curing any kind of inflammations. The mixture of seeds cooked in wine is good for intestinal and bladder infections. The tincture from the roots cures joint and skin diseases.
Making rosehip tea: To make tea with whole rosehips, you'll need around 5 of them per cup of water (or 2 teaspoons, if you are using pieces). If you are using the whole hips, make sure to steep for at least 10 minutes. Rosehips are often included in herbal blends, especially with hibiscus. Rosehip tea has a tangy, tart flavor and a pinkish color.
